Dear Friends and Members of the New York Society Library:

Our 270th anniversary is a time for celebration. We are deeply grateful for your membership and your appreciation for all that the Library offers: a quiet space for reading and writing, engaging programming for all ages, beautiful exhibitions, a unique collection of 300,000 volumes in open stacks, friendly and knowledgeable staff; all contained in our beloved building.

It may surprise you to learn that membership fees cover less than one quarter of our annual operating costs. We are committed to keeping these rates as low as possible and have not increased fees since 2019, so rising costs make charitable donations increasingly important to sustain our work.

We need your help this spring. As you know, we will remain open and able to provide our full range of services throughout the duration of our transformative renovation project. Your contribution to the Spring Appeal will have a direct impact on our operating budget which supports purchases of books and electronic resources, staff salaries, lectures and exhibitions, and children’s programming.

I hope you’ll consider making a gift to ensure that we remain a source of cultural life for our city as we have for the last 270 years.
