Young Writers' Workshop, Ellen Hagan: Contemporary Poetry
In this ongoing series, young writers are invited to join notable writers in exploring different genres. In honor of National Poetry Month, poet and performer Ellen Hagan will lead a discussion of contemporary poetry and encourage participants to write their own.
Ellen Hagan teaches and co-leads the Alice Hoffman Young Writer's Retreat at Adelphi University. Hagan's poems and essays can be found in the pages of Creative Nonfiction, Underwired Magazine, She Walks in Beauty, Huizache, Small Batch, and Southern Sin. Her first collection of poetry, Crowned, was published in 2010. Hagan's performance work has been showcased at the New York International Fringe and Los Angeles Women's Theater Festival. Hagan is also the co-founder of the Bronx Poetry Project, a writing and performance after-school program for middle-school students.
