High school students often visit the Library seeking titles on their summer reading lists. While many of the books they need are found in the adult stacks, there has been a gap on our shelves of reads that were noteworthy, but also specifically written for this age group (though admittedly appealing to a wide variety of readers). 

Now, we are excited to announce our new YoungAdult-High School collection, generously funded by member author Richard Peck. Visit Stack 9, one flight up from the Children’s Library, to browse and borrow acclaimed books for older teens and beyond. Tucked away in the back right corner of the stack, you will find everything from classics like S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders to the origin stories for teen dramas showing at the cinema this summer, Jesse Andrews’s Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and John Green’s Paper Towns. 

Our graphic novel collection is growing with award winners including Gene Luen Yang’s American Born Chinese, Lucy Knisley’s Relish, and this year’s dual Printz/Caldecott medalist, This One Summer, by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki. Rainbow Rowell navigates the choppy waters of high school in Eleanor & Park and the first year of college in Fangirl.

Start with these and when you’re hooked on this burgeoning genre, you can keep coming back for more. Below is a list of the Library’s current High School collection holdings.
