2020: Every Joy, Every Sorrow

2021 7th & 8th Grade Poetry Honorable Mention

We, longing to be together,
But political divisions tearing us apart.

In-person school closed,
Remote school opened.

Not eating out,
But here comes my mother’s cooking!

Sitting at home all day,
Re-discovering old things.

Sports canceled,
Quiet walks around the park.

Wearing masks,
Keeping people safe.

No movie theatres,
But drive-ins came back.

Borders are closed,
But, astronauts go to the ISS

No summer Olympics,
But there’s always next year.

Racial violence,
But people are more aware now.

Not being able to travel abroad,
Realizing how lucky we are anyway.

So many emotions,
Some good, others bad,
All to be appreciated,
Every moment,
Each breath brings you closer to your last,

Learn to think about every feeling,
Every climax,
Every valley,
Feeling happy,
Feeling blue,
Every moment should be dear to you.
