Children's Library Rules

Use of Children's Library:

  • The Children's Library may be used by members only.
  • Children under the age of nine must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  • If your family has a child-care provider, you must list the provider as an added user in your membership record. Your child-care provider is responsible for understanding and following all Library rules.
  • Members may not bring nonmember guests to the Children's Library. Potential members may request a building tour at the circulation desk.
  • Eating, drinking, and cell phone use are not permitted anywhere in the Library. Please turn off your cell phone before entering the building.
  • Members are asked to not bring sick children to the Children's Library. Staff may ask parents or caregivers to remove children with signs of illness.
Books and Materials:
  • Place books you do not wish to borrow on the red cart for a staff member to reshelve. Please do not reshelve books.
  • Please put toys away when you are finished using them.
Computers:
  • Library computers may be used by children ages three and older.
  • The Library does not filter Internet access. It is the responsibility of the parent or child-care provider to monitor children's computer use.
Programs:
  • Registration is required for all children's programs, and space is limited. Walk-ins and guests will not be admitted.
  • Children must meet the stated age requirement for programs. Younger children will not be admitted.
  • If you have registered for a program and cannot attend, please contact the Children's Librarian at (212) 288-6900 x234. This will allow another child to participate.
Staff may ask parents or caregiver to remove disruptive children from the building.
