In the Peluso Family Exhibition Gallery you will discover a world of transcending beauty created by designers, photographers, illustrators and editors during periods of war and peace. Here are ravishing images and books culled from the Library’s collection.
Now for the first time at the Library, you will see images of world-famous designers from Marie Antoinette’s couturier, Rose Bertin, to Charles Frederick Worth, Elsa Schiaparelli, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Charles James, and many others. High-octane models take pride of place from Dovima (eating lunch with an afghan) to Suzy Parker, Twiggy, and Naomi Sims, who became the first Black model to make the cover of Life magazine, in 1969.
Marie Antoinette established Paris as the center of haute couture in the late eighteenth century, and that tradition continues to this day with such style setters as Lady Gaga and Harry Styles in décolleté.
The Peluso Family Exhibition Gallery has never looked so ravishing. It is the Library’s first fashion show. Don’t miss it!
Fabulous Fashion has been conceived by head of exhibitions Harriet Shapiro and guest curator Wayne Mahler, and designed by Doreen Pastore.
Fabulous Fashion is generously supported by The Arthur F. and Alice E. Adams Foundation, Bloomingdale’s, and The Felicia Fund.
