Our Space

We look forward to welcoming you to the third floor! Thank you for helping us maintain our warm, safe, and inviting space for children, teens, and families.

  • Please place browsed books in our collection boxes. Our staff will return them to the shelves.
  • Please clean up toys and puzzles when you are finished using them.
  • Please refrain from visiting the Library if anyone in your party is sick. 

Our Collection

The Children’s & YA Library offers a unique collection of over 10,000 books, ebooks, audiobooks, periodicals, and electronic resources for babies through teens. Our shelves hold everything from treasured classics to the best new books. 

  • Ask our specialized staff for reference assistance and readers’ advisory services. 
  • Explore our recommended reading lists. 
  • Have a book request? Email us and we will consider adding it to the collection.

Our Events

We celebrate books, reading, and writing with programming for babies through teens including storytime, storytelling, workshops, and author events. The Library also hosts the annual Young Writers Awards and Young Cartoonists Awards competitions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can use the Children’s & YA Library?

A: The Children's & YA Library may be used by members and caregivers listed on your membership. Potential members are encouraged to request a tour from Member and Visitor Services.

Q: Can you talk and read aloud in the Children’s & YA Library?

A: Yes! Talking and reading aloud are encouraged. The use of quiet voices is appreciated by staff and members working on the third floor.

Q: May children visit the library by themselves?

A: Children & teens ages 9 and older are permitted to visit the Library without an adult. Children under the age of 9 must be supervised by an adult throughout the building.

Q: Can I bring a non-member friend to storytime?

A: Children’s & YA Library events are for members only unless otherwise stated.

Q: What is your computer policy?

A: The Library does not filter Internet access nor monitor computer use. It is the responsibility of parents and caregivers to monitor computer use.

Q: Can we eat a snack at the Library?

A: Eating and drinking* are not permitted in the Library. *Drinking water from a covered bottle is allowed.

Q: Where can we make or take a phone call?

A: Phone calls are permitted only in the first-floor entryway. Phones must be silenced while in the building.

Q: Is tutoring permitted in the Children’s & YA Library?

A: Tutoring is permitted. However, a quiet workspace is not guaranteed. Tutors must be listed in your membership record.

Q: May I bring my grandchildren to the Library?

A: Members with a Family or Dual membership may bring grandchildren to the Children's & YA Library. Contact our Membership department for more information.
